Pulitzer Prize-Winning Photographer Daniel Berehulak is the 2017 Press Club Daniel Pearl Awardee
Australian photojournalist Daniel Berehulak is the winner of the 2017 Daniel Pearl Award for Courage and Integrity in Journalism.
He has covered history-shaping events in over 60 countries and won a Pulitzer for his coverage of the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. His recent gut wrenching and courageous reports for the New York Times from the Philippines makes him an obvious choice for this award.
“Daniel Berehulak’s photojournalism brings together the visual impact of a newsworthy event unlike any other. He is fearless, compassionate and brutally honest. His images capture the gravity of events around the world that might otherwise stay out of the public’s eye,” said LA Press Club Vice President Cher Calvin, Anchor/Reporter at KTLA5, Los Angeles.
Since 2002, the Los Angeles Press Club in conjunction with Judea and Ruth Pearl, the parents of slain Wall Street Journal correspondent Daniel Pearl, have bestowed the Daniel Pearl Award on brave reporters from around the globe.
The 2017 award will be presented by Judea Pearl at an Awards Gala Dinner at the Biltmore hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 25th. Past recipients include Charlie Hebdo, Richard Engel, Anna Politkovskaya and Bob Woodruff.
The SoCal Gala is a fundraiser for this 501c3 charitable organization and makes it possible for us to run the club and fund our educational programming for the rest of the year.
LAPC is one of the oldest and most respected journalist organizations in the nation with a storied history of honoring the most celebrated reporters of the past century. In recent years the Los Angeles Press Club has continued to uphold its tradition of acknowledging excellence in spite of the fact that Journalism itself has struggled in the face of ever declining budgets.
I love the efforts you have put in this, regards for all the great posts.
